I have been wanting to make my own modern gold ring wreath for awhile now and I finally did it! I love the bright colors that scream summer and how simple and easy it was to put together. Come check out this easy step-by-step tutorial!
Summer is almost here and I am so excited for the warm weather we are having in Colorado! All the flowers are starting to bloom and everything is turning green, which always gets me feeling super inspired! My previous front door wreath was getting pretty beat up from the winter and I needed something fresh and new. I love the simplicity and modern touch of a gold ring wreath and wanted to create something colorful and pretty for my front door.
I don’t know about you, but whenever I shop around for large front door wreaths, they typically come with a big price tag. There have been several times, where I searched in stores and online, and couldn’t find a wreath that I loved and felt totally happy spending $60+ dollars for.
Instead of buying something I kinda liked, I decided to just make my own! (And it cost me around $45)! This way I can feel totally happy with my wreath and pick the exact type of flowers and greenery I want. It only took me 30 mins or less to do and is honestly so simple and easy to do!
To help you create your own modern, summer floral wreath, I have put together a great step-by-step tutorial for you to follow! You can customize it however you want, but as long as you follow the steps below, you will be well on your own to creating your own beautiful front door wreath! Check it out my friends! 🙂

Step 1: Purchase your Supplies and materials
All of the florals and greenery I bought were from Hobby Lobby and were all 50% off! Woohoo! They had so many beautiful, high quality selections. You can also check out faux flowers and greenery at Michaels, Afloral.com (more pricey), or Joann’s Craft Store. Most craft stores have coupons too that you can use. And for your shopping convenience, I have linked where I bought the supplies and materials I used below.
Here is the list of supplies and materials you will need:
- 19″ Gold Ring Wreath
- Hot Glue Gun
- Floral Wire
- Scissors (Regular scissors worked okay, but wire cutting scissors would be much easier to use!)
- 2 Stems of Seeded Eucalyptus
- 2 Stems of Lambs Ear
- 2 Large Fuchsia Peonies
- 2 Stems of Pink Ranunculus
- 1 Yellow Billy Button Stem
STep 2: Cut the Greenery stems and flowers
- Trim your Eucalyptus and Lambs Ear stems.
In this step, you will want to trim the stems of your greenery down to the length you want for your wreath. I wanted to make sure my eucalyptus and lambs ear went up half way around each side of my wreath and that both sides connected at the stems (pre-measuring this out will help determine where to cut your stems).
I cut 2 stems of lambs ear (one for each side), and 4 stems of seeded eucalyptus (2 stems for each side).
- Cut your flowers.
You will want to cut the flowers at the base so that it is flat and easy to glue down later on. I cut both my peonies, 4 ranunculus flowers, and 2 billy buttons. I also cut 2 ranunculus and 2 billy buttons with longer stems still attached.
Step 3: Attach the Lambs Ear and EUCALYPTUS
In this step, you will use your floral wire to attach your stems of lambs ears first, and then your eucalyptus stems on top of that. I started twisting the floral wire at the base of the stem and worked my way up.
Step 4: Attach your Flowers to The Wreath
Now my favorite part…adding the flowers! I first added my long stemmed ranunculus and billy button flowers over the greenery with floral wire. I positioned them to fall halfway up the greenery.
Next you will hot glue the rest of the flowers, starting with the large peonies in the middle.
If you have never used a hot glue gun before, make sure to follow the instructions that come with it and to be careful! (the glue gets very HOT). Mine took 3-5 minutes to heat up and I used about 1 stick of glue. After you place the glue on the base of your flowers, make sure you hold it down in place for a couple minutes to make sure its attached and secure before moving on.
You have finished your Modern Summer Floral Wreath!
Hope you guys enjoyed this step-by-step tutorial, so you can make your very own floral wreath too! Using the gold ring gave it a more modern look and plus I just love gold accents 🙂 I also ended up using a piece of twine I had at home to secure the wreath to the door.
Once you do this DIY project once, it’s seriously addicting. Now I have so many other ideas of wreaths I want to do throughout the year. The possibilities are so endless. If you decide to make this wreath, tag me in it on Instagram…I would love to see it! You can find my Instagram account @modernfamilymusings on my side bar or bottom of this page. Have fun with it and enjoy creating! 🙂
