Thinking about putting wallpaper up in your home? I am here to tell you that:
- It’s a total game-changer and you should totally do it.
- As intimidating as it may seem, it’s actually not that bad and totally doable.
- There are tons of affordable wallpaper options out there for you!
One thing I love about wallpaper is how it instantly elevates a room and that you don’t need to be a pro to use it. No matter what your budget, there are so many options and sources available from permanent, pre-pasted or temporary peel and stick.
The prices also vary from high-end designer wallpaper costing $400 a roll to more affordable wallpaper options costing $20 per roll. So no matter what your budget, there are options out there for you!
Intimated by WallPaper?
Wallpaper always intimidated me. But it wasn’t until recently when I bought wallpaper for my kid’s rooms and installed it, that I realized it wasn’t that bad.
Okay….the first couple panels were stressful but after that, it wasn’t too difficult once we got the hang of it.
What Are The Different Types of Wallpaper?
If you are a newbie to wallpaper, I wanted to give you a quick summary of the different options available for you and the differences. When I was shopping around, I had no clue what the difference between traditional, pre-pasted or peel and stick was. So here you go!
- Traditional Wallpaper: Wallpaper with no paste. This type of wallpaper requires you to buy and apply a paste to the back of the paper. (This is permanent).
- Pre-Pasted Wallpaper: Wallpaper that has a paste already applied on the back and requires water to be activated. (This is also permanent).
- Peel and Stick Temporary Wallpaper: Wallpaper that has a proprietary adhesive on the back that allows quick application and removal. (This is temporary and great for renters or beginners).
I ended up using a pre-pasted wallpaper from Anewall which specifically says that they don’t work on textured walls but I still took the risk and haven’t had issues (phew!). The only thing is that you can see some of the texture through the wallpaper if you stand up close to the wall, but it really doesn’t bug me.
But to be safe, get a sample before buying and committing!
What Is the Price Range for Wallpaper?
Wallpaper prices vary, especially if it’s traditional/pre-pasted or peel and stick. Also, everyone has a different perspective on what “affordable” is, depending on your budget.
In the world of wallpaper, higher-end designer wallpapers like Caitlin Wilson costs $150-$200 a roll and cheaper wallpaper like ones from Target can cost as low as $20 a roll. The total cost of wallpapering will, of course, depend on the number of square feet you are covering and also if you are installing it yourself or hiring.
Below I will share different wallpaper companies, starting with the more affordable options and sharing some higher-end options towards the end. And hopefully, by the end of this post, you will find a source you love within your personal price range!

Can You Use Wallpaper On Textured Walls?
Yes and no. It really depends on the company you purchase from and the type of adhesive they use on their wallpaper. Most companies will let you know on their website whether their wallpaper is compatible with textured walls. Especially if it’s the peel and stick kind (that type is a little more finicky).
If you want to try out peel and stick….my advice would be to buy a sample and test it on your walls.
MY EXPERIENCE WITH WALLPAPER ON TEXTURED WALLS
My house has orange peel texture (eek) and I was super nervous about this being an issue. I bought samples of the peel and stick from a couple of sites and did not have issues (even though their company said their wallpaper may not work with textured walls).
There are also tons of great youtube tutorials out there to show you how to install it yourself (saves you money from hiring a professional). So don’t stress and just go for it!
The results are totally worth it. I promise!
Hope You Found An Affordable Wallpaper Source
