I love making my home feel cozy and want to share tips on how you can do it too in an easy and affordable way.
Everyone loves that feeling when you walk into a home and it just makes you feel all happy and cozy inside. But you may not realize there is an actual art to cozy and tricks that you can do to achieve this very feeling without breaking the bank. Cozy also isn’t meant only for the winter season, but can be done year round! If you are a lover of cozy home vibes like myself, check out these tips that you can easily apply in your home!
1. Add faux and/or real plants
Adding live or faux plants will add instant life and interest to any space! I am a huge fan of faux plants because I have a house full of toddlers and I am also terrible at keeping plants alive! Lol. Whichever you decide, adding some greenery will add a great touch of cozy and warmth to your home.
2. Place candles around the home
I LOVEEEE me some yummy smell good candles. This is seriously the easiest thing you can do to add quick cozy vibes to your home. I love placing a candle on a side table next to the bed (like in this picture), on the dining table, the kitchen island, on my desk…I mean you get the picture. You can put a candle anywhere! The wonderful smell it brings and the ambiance it creates with the flickering light is just magical. My favorite candle is the “Capri Blue Volcano Candle” which I buy at Anthropologie. It’s amazing!
3. Mix in Soft Textured pillows
If you are familiar with cozy vibe decor, you know adding decorative pillows ALWAYS comes up as a top thing to do. More specifically, I would recommend adding pillows with TEXTURE. Textured pillows will take your cozy goal to the next level! When you are out shopping, think tassels, woven texture, weaved or quilted designs. You can also check out my list of affordable textured pillows to help you too!
4. wicker baskets, boxes & trays
You can instantly add warmth and cozy vibes to your home by incorporating natural textures. Using wicker baskets, boxes and trays are my favorite ways to do this! I love using wicker baskets to store blankets, using wicker storage boxes in the bathroom, pantry or bookcases, and using wicker trays on top of console tables or kitchen counters. They are cozy AND functional!
5. hang your favorite art pieces
I am kind of obsessed with art and have dreams of owning a huge art collection one day! My wish list is pretty huge right now and it’s not because art is cool and fun, but it actually does make your home feel cozy! Stark blank walls in a room can instantly be transformed by hanging art. Choose art that YOU LOVE and that speaks to you! My favorite money saving tip on art is to buy art prints online and then frame them yourself.
My favorite sites to do this are etsy.com, society6.com, artfullywalls.com, juniperprintshop.com and minted.com. Homegoods and Hobbylobby are also great stores to go to!
6. soft textured rugs
One of my favorite decor pieces in my home is my soft living room rug. I got mine at Wayfair.com and it’s amazing! Not only is it compfy on my feet, but my kids also love laying on it! Adding a rug that is soft on your feet with some nice texture will bring cozy vibes to any room. I personally prefer these types of rugs in the living room and bedrooms, where cozy activities tend to take place. (like cuddling with the kids or cozying up for bed).
7. incorporate books in decor
There is something ultra cozy about sitting in a library, snuggled in a corner reading a book. Books are totally cozy and in an unexpected way! And most of us have them in our homes, sitting somewhere collecting dust (I know I can’t be the only one!) If you have books in your home, use them as decorative pieces! Add a stack of books under a potted plant or vase of flowers on your console table, under a candle on the night stand, or stack a few books on a cute tray and place it on your coffee table.
Another tip: Remove the plastic cover on your books and you may find a beautiful cotton or linen bound book with pretty writing! You can also go to your local used book store and look under book covers and see if you find any beauties for cheap.
8. add curtains
Dressing your windows and framing them with color and texture will instantly create a cozier space. It also helps bring the room together, define the space, and add major interest. You can go with a heavier thicker texture like shown in the picture above (for a more moody cozy vibe) or a more sheer or semi-sheer texture (which creates a more light and airy cozy vibe).
9. light fixtures
My husband sometimes says, “why do we need more lamps when we have ceiling lights?” And I tell him, “just trust me!” Seriously though, adding light fixtures such as table lamps, wall sconces, floor lamps or even updating your current ceiling lights for a more modern style can totally transform the feel of a room. Sometimes you don’t want your whole room lite up super bright and just want to turn on a couple lamps to add some “ambiance” or “mood” lighting. This comes in handy during those early mornings, when you want a little lighting while drinking your cup of coffee. Or when you are having a nice dinner party and want a little dim lighting. Having lighting options is a must have when creating a cozy home.
10. nice home scent
I am obsessed with home scents (ties in with my candle obsession)! I love when I walk into my home and it doesn’t stink. Seriously! lol. If you have kids in diapers…you know exactly what I mean. Adding scents to your home that you love or that remind you of happy memories will instantly lift your spirits and give you that warm cozy feeling. Options could be plug ins, wax burners (scentsy makes great ones!), oil reed diffusers (Capri Blue Diffuser is my favorite), or an aromatherapy diffuser (shown above).
creating a cozy home is possible!
I hope you guys got some good tips on how to easily incorporate things into your home to create that nice cozy feeling. You don’t need to spend a ton of money to do these little things and it really does make a world of difference! Everyone deserves to feel cozy 🙂
