I started working on my son’s nursery back in January and am so excited to announce that it’s finally done! And now that Leo has turned 7 months, I also feel comfortable putting him in his own room. It’s so funny how your parenting style changes with each child. With my first two kids, I had their nurseries done before they were born. But with Leo, I was super relaxed and waited to start his because I knew he would be sleeping in our room for a while.
Also, with him being my last baby, I really wanted to take my time and enjoy the slow process of putting his nursery together. I love the final result and am so excited to share it with you all! At the end of this post, I will have a list of all the sources from his room.
Okay, let’s jump right in! Welcome to Leo’s Modern and Vintage Nursery:
With Leo’s room, I really wanted to mix textures and colors to give his room a layered and sophisticated modern vintage feel. My goal was to create a room that could also easily transition into a toddler boy room, so I didn’t want to add anything too “baby.” As we all know, they grow out of the baby phase way too fast!
This little sitting area with the art is very special to me because it show cases a few sentimental pieces. As I did with my girls room, I also created my own DIY painting for Leo. The abstract art below the nautical ship print was painted by me. I did the painting on canvas and framed it with a vintage frame I found on FB Market. And the wooden blocks on the side table were made by my father in law. I also love the lion because it represents Leo’s name so well!
To mix that modern feel to his room, I opted for a drum shaped side table. It’s also the perfect size to hold your phone or water!
The chair you see here used to be in our office and fit perfectly with the theme of his room. I wouldn’t recommend this style of chair for a nursery (I usually had a glider or rocker) but the rocker I usually use is in our living room because that’s where I spend most of my time with my kids. And to be honest, I have never really rocked my babies to sleep in a chair. I always did it standing up, so having a normal chair in here actually works for me.
This chunky textured pouf that I found at Target is so perfect. It adds so much texture and is great for kicking your feet up. I decided to also do a basket on the side of the chair to hold his books and toys. I may add bookshelves in the future, but decided to do the basket for now.
My most favorite feature in his nursery is this DIY Green Board and Batten Wall with the Hygge and West “Daydream” wallpaper. This wallpaper is seriously amazing and sooooo beautiful in person! The gold is gilded and has this perfect soft glow when the sun hits it. So dreamy! I also love it against this specific green color called “Backwoods” by Benjamin Moore. They compliment each other so well!
And of course, you never want to put pillows or blankets in a crib, but I placed them there for styling purposes! This blanket though is so incredibly soft and just so cute with the pom poms. My girls actually love it a lot and take it from his room all the time!
The crib we have here was my other daughter’s crib and worked perfectly in his room. That’s one benefit of having multiple kids, you can pass stuff down from their siblings! The crib sheet we have here is new though. All my other crib sheets were ultra-girly, so I opted to get Leo some modern boyish sheets and this windowpane design was perfect! It’s simple and doesn’t clash with the pattern in the rug or wall.
To save some money, I decided to reuse an old black dresser from Ikea that I bought after I graduated from college. It still worked perfectly and gave that extra contrast I wanted. I also bought this unique vintage table lamp from Facebook Market for $10, which added some fun vintage character! Facebook Market is now my favorite place to buy unique and affordable pieces!
And if you are looking for a basket to hold your babies diapers and wipes, this gray Target basket is the perfect size! I usually buy the Costco wipes and they fit perfectly in there with a stack of diapers next to it.
To add more of that vintage feel to his nursery, I decided to go with a Loloi rug from their Layla collection. If you haven’t heard of Loloi, they offer some amazingly affordable vintage style rugs! They are printed and not woven which is where the cost saving comes from and are perfect for a home with small children because they are durable and easy to clean!
These curtains are not room darkening but our windows have blinds and create enough darkness in the room when both are closed. I love the subtle texture on them and how they add a bit more character than a solid fabric curtain.
I absolutely love this mobile and felt it really tied everything together. It gently moves without any noise and has a brass finish that pairs well with the wallpaper and other warm tones in the room.
I was really excited when I found this Etsy “Be Kind” canvas sign! I loved that it had a “bee” instead of the word “be” and that it had a vintage feel to it too. Having it hang on these modern dot wood hooks helped mix the modern and vintage feel I was going for.
It feel so good to have his room finished! Leo has been sleeping really well in it and seems to love it too! Thank you so much for following along and if you want to see a live tour of me showing his room, I have a highlight in my Instagram @makinghomepretty called “Boy Nursery” if you want to check that out!
