For those of you who follow me on Instagram, you all know little Leo arrived in September and that I have been brainstorming design ideas for his room! He is now 5 months old and I am so excited to finally get started on his “Modern and Vintage Baby Boy Nursery”.
He is our third and last baby, so this nursery is an extra sweet project for me. I mean….look at this kid. Seriously, the greatest blessing to our family!
When I started brainstorming his room design, I knew that I wanted to create an accent wall with wallpaper and board and batten. And I also knew I wanted to incorporate green paint somewhere in his room!
As I created this design for his room, I really wanted it to be a space that can easily transition from baby to toddler to little boy. So I didn’t want it to feel too “baby” but kind of sophisticated baby…..if that is even a thing LOL.
Baby Boy Nursery Inspiration
One nursery that first influenced me and gave me inspiration was from the home of Wit and Delight. This is her daughter’s room and I liked the use of green and the modern and warm tones in this space.
The next room that also gave me nursery room inspiration is from the home of Bre from brepurposed.com. Her son’s room had a board and batten accent wall and I absolutely loved it! I also loved that green color on the wall and all the modern touches too!
Bird Wallpaper
So after deciding the overall vibe of the room and the type of accent wall I wanted to do, I needed to decide on wallpaper!
This was a major struggle for me. On Instagram, I shared the original wallpaper I was thinking of getting which was this one from Etsy. I was literally two seconds away from buying it until my husband made the comment, “those birds look like they are swooping down attacking something….isn’t that a little scary for a nursery?”
I was like, “WHAT THE HECK!” Now I can’t get the image of “aggressive birds” circling the crib out of my head LOL. I really liked that wallpaper because of the vintage feel it had. But since that paper was now tainted in my mind, I decided to keep searching for another bird wallpaper for his nursery.
And even though my husband’s comment really annoyed me, it all worked out in the end. Because during a 2 AM feeding session with Leo, I was scrolling mindlessly on my phone and came across Hygge and West’s gorgeous bird wallpaper called “Daydream“!
Just like the name states, it feels like you are looking up and daydreaming at the clouds.
I love the combination of clouds and birds and how it feels classic, dreamy, and of course “bird” friendly haha. It’s a gender-neutral style of wallpaper which I like. And the gold print is metallic which I think is really cool too.
So I bought their wallpaper and am super excited to use it in his room! I think it will play nicely with the green board and batten I want to do. And speaking of green….finding the right shade of green paint was the next big decision!

Green Paint Swatches for the Nursery
On my Instagram, I have a highlight called “Green Paint” where I swatch these colors. I thought white paint was hard to choose….but green paint might be even harder! There are just so many beautiful shades to choose from and I couldn’t help but buy 7 different green paint samples.
The green paint that I swatched were:
- Benjamin Moore “Backwoods”
- Clark and Kensington “Pine Grove”
- Benjamin Moore “Salamander”
- Behr “Hosta Leaf”
- Behr “Heritage Park”
- Benjamin Moore “Vintage Vogue”
- Benjamin Moore “Caldwell Green”
After going back and forth with the swatches, I narrowed it down to Benjamin Moore’s Backwoods. It’s a beautiful green with warm undertones, which I think will play nicely with the warmer tones in the room and the gold wallpaper.
Modern and Vintage Baby Boy Nursery Design Plan
So after deciding on those major aspects of the nursery (theme, paint, and wallpaper), it was time to create the mood board. Here is the mood board I created on PowerPoint with some decorating pieces I plan on using.
It feels good to have the design plan finished and I can’t wait to get started on it and share it with you all! When I do, I will have all the details and sources listed. Thank you so much for checking out Leo’s modern and vintage baby boy nursery plans!
