Planning A Toddler Girl Bedroom for Sisters
This is actually my first time planning a room from start to finish, woohoo! Most of the spaces in my home are in “stages” and not totally done. But this time around I wanted to put my big girl pants on and create a mood board and finish the room. And I cannot tell you how gooooood it feels to see my vision come to life!
Plus I kinda had no choice. Juliana was jumping out of her crib, both were sneaking out at night and doing some sort of mischief together. I could have kept them in separate rooms but I thought it would be fun for them to share a space and keep each other company. (aka stay in their rooms at night–lol).
Well, my hope is that this new big girl room will keep these two silly sisters from sneaking out!
Finding My Toddler Girl Room Inspiration
When I started planning Olivia and Juliana’s shared big girl room, I knew I wanted it to be cheerful and happy with modern touches. My girls have a ton of energy (Olivia is 4 and Juliana is 2), are girly, and love all the typical things little girls love (Frozen, Princess Dresses, Dolls etc).
They have fun personalities so I wanted their rooms to reflect their happy and bright spirits! But I also wanted a space that they could grow into….so nothing too trendy or baby-ish. More of a big girl’s room!
I first saw this Anewall floral wall mural about a year ago and it was literally LOVE at first sight. It reminded me of a piece of watercolor art I would have painted myself. So we purchased it during their Black Friday sale and made it the focal point of my design for their room.
My advice when planning a room is to find that ONE thing that you absolutely love. And use that to inspire the rest of the pieces for your space. In this case, it was that gorgeous wall mural.
The Before, Painting, and WallPapering
Here is Olivia’s room before. It was pretty cute and was the room she had since she was one. The walls were beige and she was still sleeping in her toddler crib. In order to move her sister in, we had to move everything out and make space for two twin beds.
For those of you who follow me on Instagram, you all know how much I lovvvve painting ceilings. (Haha totally sarcastic here!) The first thing I did to update this space was painting the walls from beige to a beautiful bright white called Chantilly Lace by Benjamin Moore. I painted both the walls and ceilings the same white paint and it totally transformed the room!
A month later (literally felt like I was painting forever!), it was time to put up that gorgeous wall mural! This was my first time putting up wallpaper and I was super intimidated by it, but it was honestly not that bad! There is definitely a learning curve with the first panel but after that, it was pretty easy. And it worked on our textured walls too!

Olivia & Juliana’s Big Girl Bedroom Reveal
Okay, here it is you guys! I hope you enjoy peeking inside my girl’s updated big girl room and get some inspiration for your home too. I also have the sources of many of the items rounded up at the end. Enjoy!
Ikea Minnen Extendable Bed
When searching for beds, I didn’t want a “toddler bed” with traditional railings. I was planning to get a regular twin size bed, but needed something that was still low to the ground and toddler-friendly.
This Ikea Minnen Extendable Bed was perfect! I love that it has these cute built-in railings at the top and foot of the bed and that it’s low enough to the ground for my girls to climb in and out easily.
Juliana is still 2 and really little, so I didn’t want to worry about her falling out and getting hurt. Plus these beds are super cute and affordable ($99 each)! They are also extendable, so if you want to make it shorter you can, but I chose to extend mine out to the full twin size length. Ikea sells the extendable mattresses if you decided to go that route.
I bought a regular twin mattress on Amazon.

Coolest Modern Table Lamp for a Girls Room
I also absolutely adore this modern soft peachy pink lamp! I found it on Amazon, thanks to my fav bloggers ChrisLovesJulia who shared this lamp on their Instagram. It’s perfect between the girl’s beds because they each have their own light switch to pull down.
This mid-century modern nightstand fits perfectly in between their beds. I love the warm wood tone against the colorful wallpaper, giving it a soft and natural contrast. My only complaint is that the drawers are wood on wood, and don’t have the stoppers to prevent it from falling out (not really the best for a rambunctious 2-year-old).
Target Tassel Curtains
For their windows, I decided to stick with something neutral with a simple pattern that wouldn’t compete next to the colorful wallpaper. These black and white striped and tasseled curtains from Target were perfect! I almost bought similar ones at Anthropologie but decided to go for the more affordable Target option.
Target dooooes it again!
Cute Decorations For A Toddler Girl Room
To add to the girly floral style of their room, I hung this beautiful round rattan mirror from Hobby Lobby. It reminded me of a big flower! The wood tones in the mirror played well with the end table and added a bit of a girly boho vibe.
I also added this Eden and Co Modern Wall Coat Rack underneath, which is perfect for hanging decorations, princess dresses and more!
I also added this adorable and fun Pom Pom Garland from my friend Erin’s shop at rinandruckus.com. The Pom Poms are made of soft felt and strung on a pretty gold string. So cute to decorate any girl’s room with!
And that wood and pink toy camera is so adorable too! The girls love pretending they are taking pictures with me.
My girls love reading books! We always read several stories to them at bedtime. So a book storage solution was needed in their room. I originally tried to buy the Ikea FLISAT Wall Storage shelves but they were out of stock at my local Ikea. So I found these similar wood ones from Amazon. They are actually meant to be spice racks but work great for small books (probably wouldn’t work well with larger books though).
We kept the same dresser and lamp Olivia originally had in her room and placed it in this little nook area of her room. I also scored this lidded basket which is a total Serena and Lily La Jolla Basket DUPE! I found it at Home Goods and totally took it home with me. It is perfect to store all their plush and stuffed toys. Unfortunately, it’s not online for me to link (sad face).
I also added this square black letter board to personalize their room a bit. “I Love You To The Moon And Back” is a special saying their Grammy and Poppy always say to them, which gives their room a sweet personal touch.
My girls love dolls and these pillow dolls are just so cute! The first one is a Ballerina doll I got from Target and the Fairy doll is from Crate and Barrel.
Floral & Whimsical Art Gallery Wall
I love art and always wanted to put an art gallery wall in my home! Creating this whimsical gallery wall for my girls was so fun and is probably my favorite spot in our home now.
One personal touch I did was to do my own DIY Acrylic Canvas Floral Painting. It turned out so cute and added a fun pop of pink to the wall. And to add a bit of character to the painting, I framed it with a $5 vintage frame that I found on Facebook Market.
The other art pieces are prints from Juniper Print Shop, Society 6 and Target. I had the prints also framed through Frame It Easy. I love that online frame store for custom framing!

My girls were really excited when they saw their art gallery and I hope they cherish these prints forever and grow up to love art as much as I do!
